Description:

China News Reporter

The Epoch Times is seeking journalists with a strong background in reporting on China, particularly its economy, politics, and human rights issues.  Our China news section is a flagship feature, leading the way in covering the Chinese regime’s global ambitions, the latest challenges impacting Chinese society and economy, and the evolving dynamics of China-U.S. competition.

The ideal candidate will craft compelling feature articles and pitch timely, shorter pieces aligned with the latest developments in the news cycle.

Duties

  • Cover China-focused news for a U.S. national audience with clarity and relevance.
  • Pitch and write newsworthy stories, providing both in-depth analysis and clear summaries of key events.
  • Conduct interviews with economists, analysts, and other experts to strengthen reporting.

Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in China-focused reporting (not just general news), with expertise in economic, political, or human rights issues.
  • Strong research, analytical, and storytelling skills.
  • Fluency in Mandarin is a strong plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with PRC military affairs, the South China Sea or Indo-Pacific dynamics is a plus.
  • Strong news judgment and ability to identify impactful stories for a U.S. audience.
  • Proficiency in AP Style.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience.

Pay Rate

$150-$250 per article (800 words), with rates tailored based on experience, expertise, and the complexity of the assignment.

While this is a freelance position, our contributors have the opportunity for consistent assignments and the chance to cover some of the most pressing China-related issues for a wide audience.
