OVERVIEW
We are seeking a skilled remote editor with a JD to edit articles as an independent contractor, primarily for publication on our law firm’s Web site.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as a writer and editor of legal content that is aimed at a consumer audience, and will have examples of such work to share, including from recognizable mainstream media. Our firm specializes in employment and whistleblower law; a background in those areas is a plus.
Applicants without a JD will be rejected automatically. Qualified applicants who submit a cover letter will be favored.
DUTIES
- As needed, collaborate with attorneys to develop and outline article ideas
- As needed, assess first drafts for structure, completeness, and legal accuracy
- As needed, confer with attorneys on requirements for extra research, rewriting, etc. — some research by the editor may be needed
- Review and edit later drafts for structure, completeness, legal accuracy, and voice — articles will be aimed primarily at potential clients
- Review proposed final drafts with attorneys, make changes as needed
- Proof carefully for publication
- Important: The use of AI tools is forbidden in this role
REQUIREMENTS
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school
- Several years of experience writing or editing legal articles for a general audience
- Comfort with legal research
- Comfort conforming to our “house style”
- Enough interest in this job to bother writing a cover letter
- Enough interest in this job to critique articles during the interview process
Job Types: Part-time, Contract
Pay: $50.00 – $75.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 15 per week
