China News Reporter
The Epoch Times is seeking journalists with a strong background in reporting on China, particularly its economy, politics, and human rights issues. Our China news section is a flagship feature, leading the way in covering the Chinese regime’s global ambitions, the latest challenges impacting Chinese society and economy, and the evolving dynamics of China-U.S. competition.
The ideal candidate will craft compelling feature articles and pitch timely, shorter pieces aligned with the latest developments in the news cycle.
Duties
- Cover China-focused news for a U.S. national audience with clarity and relevance.
- Pitch and write newsworthy stories, providing both in-depth analysis and clear summaries of key events.
- Conduct interviews with economists, analysts, and other experts to strengthen reporting.
Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in China-focused reporting (not just general news), with expertise in economic, political, or human rights issues.
- Strong research, analytical, and storytelling skills.
- Fluency in Mandarin is a strong plus but not required.
- Familiarity with PRC military affairs, the South China Sea or Indo-Pacific dynamics is a plus.
- Strong news judgment and ability to identify impactful stories for a U.S. audience.
- Proficiency in AP Style.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience.
Pay Rate
$150-$250 per article (800 words), with rates tailored based on experience, expertise, and the complexity of the assignment.
While this is a freelance position, our contributors have the opportunity for consistent assignments and the chance to cover some of the most pressing China-related issues for a wide audience.
